My Must Do’s & Suggestions while traveling to Los Angeles. Hold on tight while I get straight to the point on this epic vacation destination.
Must Do in Los Angeles:
Rent a house in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood located in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, California. The neighborhood is located in middle of everything, without the Beverly Hills price tag. Its close proximity to the 101 freeway offers quick access to Hollywood and Downtown, too.
Rent a house on VRBO or Airbnb, it is cheaper than a hotel room. Also, Dollar rental has great prices on car rentals.
Fun Fact: Several celebrities live in Sherman Oaks such as Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Aniston, Paula Abdul, and Luke Perry (RIP).
Day 1 in Los Angeles
Visit the “Hollywood Walk of Fame”
Lanewood Ave &, N La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90028
Do a celebrity home tour while on the “Walk of Fame,” there are many to choose from. Check online reviews for accuracy, you do not want to be stuck on a fake tour. They will haggle on pricing, most are cash only.
Next, have lunch:
After your Hollywood tour go down the street to Pink’s Hot Dogs in Hollywood. You will not be dissatisfied!
Pink’s Hot Dog
709 N La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90038
Everything on the menu is amazing, so get what you want!
Visit Santa Monica Pier
200 Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, CA 90401
Take a picture at the Santa Monica 66 End of Trail street sign, and check out the beach!
Try one of the ice cream shops at the pier. They make a cookie monster ice cream that is to die for.
Day 2 in Los Angeles
Universal Studios Hollywood
100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, CA 91608
Buy discount tickets. Log into Ebates, click on Expedia, and order tickets for 4% cash back. You can buy a day and get a second day free! While at Universal don’t forget to go on the “World Famous Studio Tour” only available at the Universal Studios Hollywood.
Try “Butter Beer” at Harry Potter World and a Duff Beer at Moe’s Bar in Simpson Land. To top it off don’t forget to eat a Homer sized donut and a genuine Krusty Burger! Also, the Mummy Roller Coaster Ride is by far the most thrilling at the park.
Day 3 in Los Angeles
Use your free Day ticket at Universal Studios Hollywood. Whatever you couldn’t get to on Day 1, lucky you Day 2 is free.
Day 4 in Los Angeles:
5333 Zoo Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90027
If you have small kids the LA Zoo is must. They have animals that we do not have here at our Houston zoo, including most other zoos around the U.S. Maybe it’s because they are so close to the San Diego zoo?
Must Do in Los Angeles:
606 N Robertson Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069
Get a babysitter and hit up Hollywood. Make reservations at the famous SUR Lounge and request a celebrity server. Try to take a picture in the back alley with the SUR sign (Where all the delicious drama happens on “Vanderpump Rules”).
Order the Goat Cheese Balls. They are Stassi’s favorite on the “Vanderpump Rules” show and quite delish.
Must Do in Los Angeles:
8932 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069
Leave your car with Valet at SUR lounge and walk to “TomTom’s” Bar. Stay late because that’s when the celebrities show up! While we were there we saw Lisa Vanderpump, Tom, Jax, and Britney!
Order a round of “Stroke of Midnight” drinks. They are strong & yummy. Honestly all of their signature cocktails are strong and yummy, you literally cannot choose a bad drink.
Day 5 in Los Angeles:
Visit The Hollywood Sign
Los Angeles, CA 90068
Research hiking videos and maps on Youtube. Our favorite trail was Beachwood Canyon Trails.
Masa of Echo Park
1800 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026
Stop for some delicious deep dish pizza at Masa of Echo Park. Keep in mind the deep dish takes 45 minutes to cook, but soooooo worth it.
Get an appetizer while you wait, if you’re starving. And don’t forget to indulge in some local draft craft beers.
Day 6 in Los Angeles
Knott’s Berry Farm Theme Park
8039 Beach Blvd, Buena Park, CA 90620
Visit Knott’s Berry Farm Theme Park. This place has ton of rides for all ages, the whole family will be happy. Order tickets online via your phone at the gate, it will save you $$$.
Check out all the amazing food at the park. If thrill rides are your thing get a fast pass. There is almost zero wait for this option, but it basically costs the price of an additional ticket. The famous chicken at the Knott’s Chicken Restaurant was HUGE disappointment for me. What can I say I’m from the south so I have high expectations.
Day 7 in Los Angeles
La Brea Tar Pits
5801 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036
Visit the “La Brea Tar Pits.” Walk around outside and view the tar pits for free or pay a small additional fee and you can visit their museum.
Go inside and view the museum. You’ll see lots of great fossils of saber tooth cats, wooly mammoths, and dire wolves. A 30 minute show is included with the museum ticket price, which goes over the history of this famous site.
