Are you looking into socially distancing from the big city? Lake Lyndon B Johnson is the perfect lake getaway. This lake is part of the Highland Lakes, located in Central Texas right outside of Austin, in the Texas Hill County aka the beautiful part of Texas. This lake is as good as it gets in Texas. The air is fresh, the water is clean and unlike most lakes in Texas, this water is blue. On the lake, you will see the flag blowing, music blaring and some good ol’ southern hospitality. Everyone will welcome you with a smile, along with a boat wave. Their laid back attitude will have you dreaming about living the small town kind of life.
Here are my suggestions for an adult summer vacation on Lake LBJ. Where to stay, what to do and where to eat with your friends.

Lake LBJ History
The lake was named after President Lyndon B Johnson, a US Senator of Texas, who went on to be 36th President of the United States. The lake is part of a chain of lakes that start in Horseshoe Bay and stop in the small city of Kingsland, with a population 6,000. It is around twenty miles long of cleanest lakes that I have seen in Texas.
Insider Tip: President Johnson and his wife had a home on this lake during and after his presidency.
Where to Stay on Lake LBJ

Lake LBJ is located an hour from Austin, which for Texans means right outside of Austin, since it takes an hour to get anywhere in Texas. There are countless rentals to choose from that are located right on the lake. The best part of it is the majority of these rentals have boat docks which is perfect for parking your boat, partying, jumping in and swimming. We spent the majority of our time just hanging out by our dock. Lucky for us, we had the hookup because my best friend’s boss owns a house right on the lake. We stayed in this gorgeous house with two other couples, for no charge. Jackpot!
Insider Tip: If you are on a budget, like most Americans, then splitting a house three ways is extremely cost effective, in addition, the bigger the group, the more fun you will have.
When searching for a rental, the following cities are located on the Lake LBJ:
Granite Shoals
Kingsland
Horseshoe Bay
Highland Haven
Sunrise Beach
The Front Desk LBJ Vacation Rentals has great selection of lake house rentals. Click here for more information. This rental company has a large selection of some of the most amazing rentals on the lake. You can find a rental with a dock that has a awesome slide or maybe even a rope swing. My husband had blast diving from the top dock into the water. Doesn’t that sound so fun?

Insider Tip: We stayed in the charming town of Kingsland and we loved it!
If you are looking for a lake house rental for grownups to celebrate a special occasion, I suggest that you splurge and get a rental with an incredible game-room. We spent the majority of our time at night drinking and playing games. You’d think we would be tired after an entire day on the lake, but all you need is a nice and refreshing shower and voila, everyone is ready to stay up all night.
Side Note: Happy Birthday Nadia Gonzales!

If you want the group to grow closer, I suggest you play girls versus boys. Married couples will turn on each other in a heartbeat, just to score a point. It’s a great way to get to know the other couples.

FYI the girls won 2 to 1. What can I say…girls do everything better than boys.
The boys took the losses pretty seriously.

Also, make sure there are plenty of outdoor play toys for all of your older kids.

What to do on Lake LBJ
Rent a boat or wave runners.
Bring your own boat or rent a boat.
You can rent a kayak, paddle boards, wave runners, pontoon and/or a ski boat from Horsebay Resort Marina. Click here to go to the website.
Insider Tip: Kingsland Community Park is open to the public and has boat launch. They also have an area to park your vehicles and trailers.
There is no feeling, like being out on the lake, with the wind in your hair and a cold drink in your hand.

If you have a boat or wave runners, head over to the new island located in the middle of the lake. The rumor is, this island was created after Hurricane Harvey.

This island is the perfect spot for listening to music, while floating around with a beer in your hand. This is good old fashioned Texan fun! If you want to know more about this island, click here.

If you have boat, do not forget to bring your tubes.

Heck if you have the extra money, splurge on some wave runners!

Fishing
If fishing is your “thing”, then you can find the following fish in this lake:
Largemouth Bass
White Bass
Catfish
Crappie
Where to Eat
Boat Town Burger Bar in Kingsland
Take your boat over to Boat Town Burger Bar in Kingsland for lunch on the water. There are plenty of places to dock your boat while you eat. On the weekends, they have great live music. They have wide selection of deliciously fried seafood and hamburgers.

Just take a look at these sweet potato fries. They were so tasty!
Blue Bonnet Café in Marble Falls (World Famous)
This place is cash only and the lines are LONG. The breakfast is definitely worth it.
Rae’s Rbar & Grill in Marble Falls
This place is amazing. You will not regret it.

This is by far, the best way to escape the crowds, while enjoying the fresh Texas air and living the lake life. This Hill County getaway was the perfect summer adult getaway vacation for my friends and I.
