Nov 13, 2023 | Ecuador | 0 comments

Are you planning a dream adventure through the wild and wondrous Galápagos Islands? Get ready to explore some of this planet’s most exotic creatures, vast landscapes, and stunning beaches—all from the comfort of your own home away from home. Before packing up for an unforgettable excursion into Ecuador’s archipelago, make sure to check off every item on my Ultimate Galápagos Island Packing List. I have everything you need to know in order to kickstart your trip right. So put that passport in your bag and let’s get started.

During my recent trip, I had the privilege of experiencing the sheer magnificence of these islands. The landscapes are so serene, that it feels like stepping into another world. And don’t even get me started on the marine and wildlife. The Galápagos is teeming with creatures you won’t find anywhere else on Earth.

For a week, I embarked on a luxurious adventure aboard Ecoventura. With this exceptional vessel as my home base, I got to explore every corner of the Galápagos Islands. Click here for my blog post “An Insider’s Guide to Cruising the Galápagos in Luxury”.

Be prepared for an unforgettable adventure filled with daily walks, hikes, snorkeling, zodiac rides, sea kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding. But before you set sail, make sure you have all the necessary clothing and equipment. Ensuring everything fits and works will give you peace of mind during your once-in-a-lifetime journey. And don’t forget to pack light for easy travel around Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. Get all set for an incredible experience like no other.

Weather & Water in Galapagos

As a proud Texan, I can confidently say that my visit to this stunning location left me reaching for layers on more than one occasion. But that’s not all – brace yourself for the bone-chilling waters, which will test your resilience in every way imaginable.

Imagine stepping off the plane onto the sandy shores of the Galapagos, expecting sun-kissed bliss, only to feel a cool breeze embrace you. It was a surreal sensation, one that caught me off guard. While everyone anticipates warm temperatures when venturing to a tropical paradise, the Galapagos offers a delightful respite from scorching summers, even in the midst of the equatorial belt.

Now, let me warn you about the freezing cold waters that surround these magnificent islands. As a Texan accustomed to balmy dips in the Gulf of Mexico, diving into the frigid Galapagos waters was nothing short of a shock to the system. Mentally preparing yourself for this bone-chilling experience is essential to fully enjoy all that the Galapagos has to offer.

What to pack for Galapagos Island

I suggest going for the “pack light and go with the flow” vibe—opt for a soft suitcase or a duffel bag to keep your cabin super cozy and luggage-free. Chances are you’ll be hopping between islands on a zodiac or a cool water taxi. So, lighten your load and say goodbye to lugging heavy bags around. Don’t forget to check your luggage requirements and baggage allowance for your flight from Quito to the Galapagos. The planes are smaller and, in most cases, you’ll only be allowed to bring one bag and one carry-on for free.

Important Information Regarding the Galapagos

  • When you join the tours, they recommend rocking nudes, grays, blacks, and whites. Leave those bright colors behind, so you don’t startle the amazing wildlife you’ll encounter.
  • The good news is that most tours hook you up with wetsuits, dry bags, and snorkel gear. Double-check the details with them, just to be extra sure.
  • Drones are a big no-no in the Galápagos Islands!
  • When it comes to electricity, Ecuador operates on the same 110 volts and 60 cycles as the US. No need to worry about converters or adapters because their plugs are typically the 2 pronged flat types. In Ecuador, they even use USD American dollars, so you won’t have to bother with exchanging money at the bank. How convenient is that?
  • To blend in with nature, opt for nude, white, and black attire. No bright colors!
