What is a FAM?
Don’t know what a FAM trip is? No worries, just think of it as the ultimate field trip for travel agents. They get to jet off on an adventure and familiarize themselves with all the amazing places their clients can explore. From airlines to cruises – they’ll experience everything first hand, so book your next journey knowing you’re in good hands.
What is not included on a Travel Leader’s FAM trip
When it comes to FAM trips, airfare and transportation are like mixed nuts – you never know what’s included. Sometimes the vendor will throw in a free ride from the airport to your hotel, but usually, that expense is up to you. It is rare that airfare is included.

What to expect on a Travel Leader’s FAM
With a Travel Leader’s FAM, you get some drinks on the house and can let your hair down at night. During the day, however, it’ll be all business as you hustle around learning and showing off each amazing resort. When you arrive at a resort the first thing they hand you is their specialty drink. This is your chance as a blogger or travel agent to really get to know the resort. I personally believe the perfect way to get to know a resort is by going on a guided tour (site visit) around the resort with one of their specialists. This is your chance to soak up all the incredible knowledge they have to offer. Take plenty of snaps so you capture every moment along with notes- this will be an information-overload adventure. After the tour, you’ll be able to give resort suggestions to your clients – so you can make sure their vacation dreams stand up to your high standards.
I will never suggest a resort to my readers or clients that I personally have not experienced firsthand. I have had companies reach out to me and want me to write about their location for money without experiencing their product. I believe that is highly unethical therefore I say no.
Make sure you dress appropriately. I prefer comfortable shoes along with business casual attire, such as, a nice romper or sundress. No bathing suits! Also, I love to wear bright colors because the pop looks great in pictures. Most importantly, make sure there are no kids in your pictures unless you have the parent’s permission.
Just remember to rest up for those rowdy nights – because once that sun sets, it’s time to party. Every evening, the resort is sure to put on a fantastic show for the visiting travel agents – ’cause when you’re off-duty, who doesn’t want a fun night?! The resorts I have visited go all out. The entertainment, drinks, settings, and food are taken to a whole new level. Make sure you pack clothes for these events and be prepared to have fun. The best part is you never know what to expect or what may go down.
Travel Leader’s Certifications
After a lot of hard work, you may be rewarded for your efforts with an impressive certification. Get ready to show it off and feel proud – all the training was worth it. You can now say you are certified in a specific area of training.
Tiping on a Travel Leader’s FAM
Yes, bring cash because you need to tip. It is the right thing to do. This is our recommendation.
- Site inspections: $20 is recommended for the driver
- Housekeeping – $5 per day, Dining – buffet $2/meal, sit-down/specialty – $5-10/meal, drinks outside of a meal – $1 per drink. Luggage handling – $1 – 2 per bag. Gratuities for special requests based on the request.
Travel Leaders Team
With the Travel Leader team, you’ll be guided by some of the warmest folks around. Not only are they skilled at keeping things organized, but also know how to make learning an absolute blast. Even after the FAM, these ladies are here to answer any of your travel questions. This is your chance to take advantage of their years of experience.
Networking with other Travel Agents
Meeting new travel agents is my favorite part about attending FAM trips! It’s like networking, but with the added bonus of finding fresh friendships and people to provide a different perspective. You never know who you’ll meet or what amazing opportunities might arise – it just proves again that human connections are valuable beyond measure.
After connecting with the awesome travel agents on this FAM, our informational journey has been non-stop. From day one we’ve formed an amazing group chat where everyone’s always asking questions and jumping in to help out fellow travel agents. It’s friendship through adventure – what could be better?
Free Gifts on a Travel Leader’s FAM
When you go to a FAM, something free is almost always part of the package. From fun souvenirs and comfy flip-flops that scream “vacation!”, to luxurious towels and little bottles of booze – what’s not to love? You never know what you will get. Some nights you walk into your room and a surprise is just sitting on your bed.
On this FAM I received a 3-night stay certificate, flip flops, a souvenir, a bottle of booze, and chocolate delivered to my room every night. I think that’s it but I may be missing something. I have personally never been a FAM where I didn’t receive some sort of gift.
In conclusion, taking a Travel Leaders Educational Experience is an easy and surefire way to take your travel career to the next level. Whether it’s onboarding, live event seminars, or educational trips – their team provides incredible learning experiences that go beyond what a classroom can offer. With each experience becoming more interactive and immersive, you will gain insider knowledge that will make you the expert in your field. And with that, what could be holding you back from experiencing one of their highly acclaimed FAM Tours? I invite you to discover an enticing world of cultural exploration, unique challenges, memorable moments, and life-changing experiences! Get ready for some real adventure.
