Should I take my kids on a desert safari tour in Dubai?
My kids absolutely love Dubai as a vacation spot. They had an absolute blast, and I must admit, Dubai is one of the most engaging and enjoyable places to take kids. My children are still talking about riding a camel in the desert. They’re begging us to get one as a pet (good luck with that)! It’s amazing how much we can learn and bond as a family when we step out of our confront zones and immerse ourselves in a new culture. Who would have thought that my kids would prefer a desert over a beach? Life is all about those unexpected adventures! So the answer to the question is yes!
Desert Safari Tours in Dubai
You can choose from a variety of exhilarating desert safari tours. Our tour included a dune drive across the red sands outside Dubai in a 4WD vehicle, where we experienced dune bashing, sandboarding, and a camel ride. To top it off, we enjoyed a VIP treatment at a Bedouin-style desert camp with a BBQ dinner, belly dancing, henna, and other entertainment. We booked our amazing tour through Expedia.
Our tour included a convenient pick-up and drop-off service right from our hotel.
ATV
We kicked off the fun by making our first stop at a rest area, where we had the option to take a restroom break, grab a snack, or rent an ATV to add an extra thrill to our sand adventure. Just a heads-up, there’s an extra fee for renting an ATV.
4WD Vehicle Dune Bashing in Dubai
The dunes, reaching heights of 20-70 feet, are awe-inspiring sandy mountains. Yes, mountains! Dune bashing, a heart-racing experience, involves zooming up, down, and around these sand giants. Adrenaline junkies will absolutely adore it, while even the most cautious individuals, like myself, may experience a mini heart attack. I couldn’t help but ask the driver to ease up as it felt like we were on the verge of flipping over the mountains a few times. Needless to say, I was eagerly counting down the moments until the dune bashing came to an end and we could move on to other adventures.
Sandboarding in the Dubai Red Dune Desert
Sandboarding the dunes was an exhilarating and unrepeatable experience for my husband and me. Although my kids were reluctant to leave the SUV due to the heat and sand blowing in their eyes, I believe it is an activity that adults would thoroughly enjoy, while children may not find it as engaging or fun.
Red Dune Desert Safari
After an exhilarating session of sandboarding and dune bashing, we made our way to a torchlit camp, where we found ourselves in a cozy tent adorned with cushions. You can kick back and indulge in some refreshing Arabian coffee and dates. But that’s not all – there’s a whole array of exciting activities that keep you entertained. You can try smoking shisha (water pipe) or get your hands decorated with beautiful henna designs. Don’t forget to capture the moment in traditional Arabic clothing. As the sun sets, we feast on a delectable barbecue dinner, featuring mouthwatering kebabs, hummus, salads, and refreshing sodas. You can also grab additional drinks from the bar (at your own expense). And while we’re enjoying our meal, get ready to be mesmerized by a lively belly dancing show and a captivating Tanoura performance with fast-spinning dancers. And if you’re up for it, you can even take pictures with majestic Arabian falcons at the camp.

Camel Ride in the Dubai Desert
My kids were absolutely obsessed with riding the camel – we did it several times! It’s included, so you can enjoy it as much as you want. The camels are incredibly sweet and they actually love a little attention, which made my daughter so happy. This was definitely the highlight of our trip!

Camel Feeding in the Dubai Desert
My kids absolutely loved the camels, and feeding them was an exciting and fantastic bonus!

BBQ on a Desert Safari
The food we devoured on the desert safari was absolutely incredible! It’s all included in your tour, so make sure to indulge in a little bit of everything to experience the full gastronomic adventure. Trust me, it was a truly authentic and mouthwatering delight! Hey, did I mention it’s a buffet? So go ahead and chow down!

Entertainment
We were thrilled to experience live entertainment featuring Tanura, a fire show, and belly dance while indulging in a delicious dinner. Honestly, it’s a memory my kids will cherish forever. We had an incredible time and an absolute blast.
Stargazing at the Safari
Stargazing is not listed on the tour, but trust me, it’s an incredible bonus! My kiddos have never experienced the magic of stargazing, and the desert was absolutely the perfect spot for their first time. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

What to Wear on a Desert Safari
Dubai, oh what a place! It’s in a conservative country, but don’t worry, in the city you’ll spot a few women strutting their stuff in whatever they fancy. Now, hold your horses! When you venture beyond the city for a Desert Safari, you’re leaving the urban vibes behind. So, make sure to cover those shoulders and don pants down to your knees. This dress code applies to both the lads and the ladies. Also, covering up is key to avoiding the scorching sun, my friend! So, even if you’re not into traditions or local customs, remember to shield yourself to dodge that pesky sunburn!
In conclusion, my family’s vacation in Dubai far exceeded our expectations. I never dreamed that my children would be begging to come back and even asking us to get a camel as a pet! By experiencing the local culture and sights of Dubai, my children learned about the world around them and, more importantly, strengthened their relationships with each other. As we discovered—sometimes through unexpected adventures—life is all about making wonderful memories and embracing opportunities for learning.
